TechFlash.com: With Microsoft backing, Democracy Live brings ballot boxes to G.I.s overseas.

TechFlash.com: Monday January 23rd, 2012

Democracy Live is playing an important role in the presidential primaries in Florida, Virginia and California by making it easier for American military personnel stationed overseas and other citizens living abroad to vote in U.S. elections.

Since voting began, more than 1,200 Florida voters in 40 countries have accessed ballots using LiveBallot, a technology developed by Issaquah-based Democracy Live and hosted on Microsoft’s Windows Azure platform.

“These elections are a huge step forward for voters living or serving our country overseas,” said Bryan Finney, president of Democracy Live. “LiveBallot allows us to deliver secure voter-specific ballots through the web to any eligible voter, anywhere in the world. By cutting the ballot’s transit time in half, LiveBallot ensures that voters are able to access, vote and return their ballot in time for it to be counted.”

Democracy Live, which was launched in 2009, also is providing electronic absentee ballots to voters with disabilities in Washington state during the 2012 election season, thanks to federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

I caught up with Finney this afternoon to learn more about Democracy Live and its services.  Read more -->
